I can't see anything in the regs that forbid ft8 (or jt65, etc,) from field contacts. Since you can modify the msg. macros to generate a script, it would be like free ice cream. Is it legal? |

Yes, it's certainly legal, but whether or not it is like free ice cream is debatable. I expect the tiny FT8 sub-bands to be thoroughly congested during FD. If you really want to shoot fish in a barrel, CW is the way to go. ;-) Mark AI4BJ |

I'm up for both, but I have trouble copying more than 8 wpm. Whereas , I can broadcast "cq fd w6son" every 15 seconds on ft8. So we will see how that works compared to PSK-31 or CW. I'm going to pow-wow with the rest of the club. |

Is there a standard way to set up FT8 to give the proper exchange for Field Day in WSJT-x? Will it log it automatically? |

I have the same questions as NR2C what is going to be the proper setup for the exchange and then there is the problem of getting the contact into the club or your own logging program. |

Field Day is not a contest and logs, if they are submitted, are not checked. You must exchange the class and section but there is no requirement to record that information. All you need to do is ensure that you do not claim duplicate contacts. We plan to use the standard FT8 format with "3A PAC 73" in place of the standard 73 message. If the other station sends their class and section we will enter it by hand, if not we will enter 1D and guess the section as we do for stations that are not in the contest. |

Field Day has: * Five dense pages of written rules * An elaborate scoring system, including bonus points * Results are published in QST not in call sign order, but in descending order of points earned Ergo: Field Day IS a contest, albeit an atypical one. :-) 73, Mark AI4BJ |

My recommendation for FT8 and MSK144 exchanges on Field Day 2018: CQFD KA7JQZ KA7JQZ K7JAR (us answering the CQ) K7JAR KA7JQZ K7JAR 2E EWA (our report) KA7JQZ 1A EWA (their report) KA7JQZ K7JAR RRR K7JAR KA7JQZ RRR TNX 73 GL I prefaced our report with our callsign, since you can easily set up a Macro to do that. The remaining exchanges are standard in the WSJT-X program. Since I haven't found any other suggestions online, I decided to make my own. 73, Radio Randy N7CKJ |
