Surfin’: Still Hunting

03/09/2012

This week, Surfin’ continues hunting broadcast transmitter sites and circuit design tools.

Still Hunting Transmitters

“Hunting Broadcast Radio Transmitters” from two weeks ago resulted in reader mail suggesting other broadcast transmitter-related websites.

William Bond, N5YCK, suggested “RabbitEars is a TV info site; has way more than most need.”

Mike Masterson, WN2A, wrote, “Nice article on Radio-Locator.com. I often keep a tab open on my browser for that site while reading Scott Fybush’s excellent Tower Site of the Week. It’s nice to see the insides and outsides of the actual broadcast sites. Scott presents his column as a kind of travelogue, combining it with lots of history and material not found elsewhere. I just tab back and forth between sites as he describes the rigs and antennas, and you can see the patterns on Radio-Locator.”

Still Designing Circuits

In response to last week’s “Designing Circuits Online,” Bob Mudra, AK9RM, wrote: “Another very useful circuit simulator is available free at Linear Technology. It’s weak in the digital domain, but works very nicely for small signal linear and power applications, with many good models and decent support. It has probably the best schematic capture interface of any of the simulators I’ve used. It is not web-based; rather, it runs on your local machine, but has much better output graphics.”

TAPR’s PSR

I just finished editing the new issue (#117) of TAPR’s newsletter, PSR, and it is available online for your digital communications reading pleasure.

Until next time, keep on surfin’!

Editor’s note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, seeks the unusual in radio. To contact Stan, send e-mail or add comments to the WA1LOU blog.
