Voluntary Communications Emergency Declared

The FCC has declared a Voluntary Communications Emergency.  All
amateurs are requested to cooperate by relinquishing the use of the
frequencies 3857 to 3867, 3873, 3925, 3935, 3945 to 3955, 3960 to
3980, 7225, 7235, 7243, 7254, 7275 and 7290 kHz, for handling
emergency traffic resulting from Hurricane Opal.

The FCC Field Offices in Atlanta, Georgia, Tampa, Florida, and New
Orleans, Louisiana have contributed to this declaration.

Here are some specific emergency traffic net frequencies (in kHz):

Northern Florida:  3950 and 7254
Alabama:  3965 and 7243
Georgia:  3975 and 7275
Mississippi:  3862
Hurricane Watch Net: 14325
Central Gulf Coast Hurricane Net:  3873, 3925, 3935, 7225, 7235 and
7290

Please do not transmit on these frequencies unless directed by net
control stations.  Emergency traffic out of the affected areas will
have priority.  Health and Welfare messages may be sent through the
National Traffic System.  Eastern Area NTS digital stations N2JAW
(New York) and KQ4ET (Virginia) will collect NTS formatted Health
and Welfare inquiries and then forward them into the affected areas
when stations are ready and available.
