Beth was first licensed as a Novice in 1993 and advanced to Extra Class in little over a year. She is an active operator and a member of the SHY-WY Amateur Radio Club in Cheyenne. Beth, a sophomore at Cheyenne East High School, is active in several student organizations, including French and Amateur Radio clubs, and has been singing in choirs since she was five. Beth was nominated for the award by Paul M. Crips, KI7TS, a communication technology instructor at Carey Junior High School in Cheyenne, who said Beth ''has a true love of life, learning and exploration. With young operators like Beth, Amateur Radio will always have its rightful place as a national resource.'' Beth was honored at a luncheon on November 15, attended by her parents; school officials; ARRL Wyoming Section Manager ''Rev'' Morton, WS7W; former Wyoming SM Steve Cochrane, WA7H; ARRL Public Information Officer Wilson Sellner, WB7RRZ; and ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Director Marshall Quiat, AG0X. The Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Award recognizes outstanding under-21 licensed amateurs and includes a 1000 dollar cash award.
